If you absolutely need to buy chocolates in Malaysia, then the Choc Boutique might be the place for you. They office dealer prices and a wider selection than what can be found in surrounding malls. Not only that, but you get to taste a few samples to help make up your mind.

Hypothetical Problem

For this article, let look at a hypothetical situation. Let’s say you are a chocaholic who never leaves home without enough chocolate to sink the Titanic. But then your flight to Malaysia happened to be delayed because you airline did not heed the recommendation of a particular airport to minimize the number of flights during the time of your trip because of a system upgrade. Instead of thinking about their passengers’ welfare, the airline preferred to line their pockets are your expense.

[Don’t worry folks, this is a hypothetical situation…]

Believing that you wouldn’t be stuck for too long, you provided precious chocolates to your friends while waiting. But after three hours of sitting, you realize that you’ve run out! What would you do?

Your first instinct would probably go straight to the Duty Free Shop. But then you realize that prices are steeper than you expected. You then prefer to preserve your limited Ringgit as you will need it for cab fare when you arrive at Malaysia.

So you decide to pull out your credit card, just to make sure you don’t leave without anything. Then you hear that your plane is about to leave and you see passengers stampeding towards the exit.

[Again, this is purely hypothetical…]

And that means that your three and a half hour flight from the Philippines to Malaysia is without chocolates. On the plane, you begin to get cranky after thirty minutes of boarding. And after an hour, everyone begins to look like bars chocolate. How can you survive?

Upon landing at the Malaysian airport, you get the opportunity to finally buy them at the Duty Free Shops. But then you realize that they aren’t exactly cheap. So your friends end up dragging you away, kicking and screaming, before the Chocolate Police arrive to pick you up.

By the time you get to your hotel room, you are in dire need to listen to the sound of paper tearing and foil wrapping being folded away. You can’t sleep and come close to cursing your friends for eating your entire stash. Never mind that it was you who offered them in the first place.

[Ah yes, being theoretically good to friends during a hypothetical problem is speculatively difficult…]

So the next morning, you head out to the mall; any mall. You aren’t picky this time around and will settle for anything that comes in a wrapper. Heck, you even flirt with the idea of eating second hand chocolate.

[Blech!]

You are so desperate to buy chocolate that when you finally find a store, they only have Milk Chocolate!

[Noooooooo! I wanted Dark Chocolate! With Nuts!…]

You crumple on to the floor, to the total embarrassment of your friends, sobbing and silently muttering, “But I wanted dark chocolate; but I wanted dark chocolate…”

The Real Solution to the Hypothetical Problem

Stop making a spectacle of yourself and pick yourself up from the floor because your prayers have been answered! There is a store where you can get every imaginable type of chocolate you want.

Apart from the usual range of nuts, there is chocolate with berries or with Mango. You’ll even find chocolate with Jackfruit in it!

[Yeah, let’s see how hardcore you really are…]

You should find everything you need at Choc Boutique, which happens to be located at 3A, SS24/11 Taman Megah, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

[Please don’t ask me for the exact directions because I’ve been pretty good at getting my group lost for the entire time we were here to see the Petronas Towers.]

The entire store can be considered a haven for chocolate lovers because it has shelves of nothing but chocolate. And for those who cannot stand the sight of chocolate after long hours of waiting at the airport, stuffed toys are available for purchase.

[Perish forbid!]

If you are looking for specific brands, you can find Beryl’s here. But if you want something that is less sweet and just as good, you might want to try out the Alfredo brand.

But don’t take my word for it, try them out. Elsa, the Filipina saleslady who patiently attended to us, pulled out all the stops when it came to samples. She allowed us to taste before we bought, just to make sure we got exactly what we wanted.

And when it was time to pay, those who have exhausted all their Ringgit do not have to worry. Choc Boutique takes credit cards. So you can get as much as you want without having to run down the street to the money changer.

Final Thoughts

We checked out several stores at various malls during our stay and Elsa from Choc Boutique was the most accommodating and easiest to communicate as she spoke English. She was also honest by saying that she couldn’t give us a discount, unlike the stores in malls. Having no leeway with prices, she made up for it by allowing us to taste as much chocolate as we liked.

But the biggest thing we appreciated was her tips on what to get and where to find it, even if it wasn’t related to chocolates. Had we met her sooner, we might have come home with more stuff.

Incidentally, don’t worry if the store is still closed when you drop by. They open quite late, 12 noon to be exact. You can visit other places before going as they close at 12:30 in the morning.

If you happen to be in Malaysia and are in dire need of chocolate for yourself, or as a gift, then Choc Boutique may be the place for you. It should be enough to satisfy most people with its varied mix.

Must Do’s

  • It’s best to make this your first stop as here as Elsa, who hails from the Philippines, has some invaluable suggestions.
  • Don’t be afraid to try out the different types of chocolate.
